Removing Windows Features

Windows comes with a lot of features that you will never use. And these can be replaced with more memory efficient programs. To enable or disable Windows Features > Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features and press "Turn Windows features on or off" from the left menu.

  • If you don't want to use Internet Explorer, Windows Media Center and if you have a good replacement for them (software recommendations covered under another topic) you can disable them and save some space.
  • If you don't own a printer uncheck "Print and Document Services".
  • On Windows 7, Disabling "Windows Gadget Platform" will reduce cost to your memory.

Alternatively, you can right click on Start button at the right bottom corner and choose "Programs and Features".
